Secret Messages ("Easter Eggs") For the Atari 2600 (VCS) ---------------------------- By Chris Federico Secret messages (sometimes called "Easter eggs") are little inscrip- tions or messages hidden in a game by the programmer. These are usually hard to find, but easy to get to when you know HOW. This file shows several of these secret messages (easter eggs). It has step-by-step directions on getting each one. If you know any messages (eggs) not mentioned here, please up- load them! Also, please read Bob Norton's EGGS2.TXT in this DL (9). It contains the message (egg) to ADVENTURE. Note: These work on the Atari 2600 (atari VCS) only. Please contact me via EasyPlex, this forum, or the Commodore Forum if you have any trouble. Let's get started! ------------------------------------ Missle Command (manufactured by Atari, inc.) ------------------------------- Select game 13 with the GAME SELECT switch. Then reset the game. If you score 0 (zero) points, the programmer's initials will appear where the rightmost city was (these appear when the game ends). There are 2 ways of scoring no points: 1) Hit reset and don't touch the joystick. You might have to try this a few times, in case the missles don't destroy all of your missle sets (no missles means no bonue points!). 2) After you hit reset, move the target up to the very top-left corner, and fire (waste) all of your missles. If you accidentally destroy an enemy missle, start over. What are the initials, you ask? ll, now you have a reason to find them!!! Defender (by Atari, inc.) ------------------- Select any game. Now, the hard part: You must get up to wave 25! (I didn't tell you it was going to be EASY!) When you are there (you know it's wave 25, because the screen will show the number 24, which means that you cleared wave 24 and now are on 25), all of your humanoids will be restored (they are every fifth wave). Wait until a lander captures a humanoid. Now shoot the lander and rescue the humanoid. (Another hard part, because of the landers' speed this high in the game.) Now bring the humanoid about an inch above the city. Now just BARELY tap it (Put it on difficulty A to make it easier to move slowly) so that the humanoid is JUST ABOVE the city. TA-DAAA!!!! All of the aliens onscreen turn into the programmers' initials. This one's a little harder, so I may as well tell you the initials: BP. Carnival (by Coleco, inc.) -------------------- Hold down the button while you turn ower on. There should be a dot in front of the rabbit in the top row. Shoot the dot (It's tough), and a little message that tells you who programmed it will appear in place of the score. This will also happen if you score 100,000 on the game, but unless you score 100,000 EXACTLY, it goes so fast you can hardly see it. Raiders of the Lost Ark (By Atari, inc.) ----------------------------- You must make sure that the ark is in the flying saucer mesa, the biggest mesa on the field. This may require a few resets. You also have to know where the Map Room is and how to use it. Contact me in EasyPlex if you have any trouble with this. Once you know the ark is there, you must get the ahnk from the treasure room (the blue thing) and use the grappling hook to get to the flying saucer mesa. (the biggest one;the one above your starting place in the mesa field.) Now drop the ahnk and wait. After a while, a little YAR (video game bug; a fly-type thing which is very tiny, it might look like a dot) will fly across the mesa. Catch it, and there's your message! There's also rumors about the message coming if you score high enough. If you know any additional info about Raiders' message, please contact me thorugh EasyPlex. ------------------------------------- Well, that's about it! Remember, contact me or upload it if you know any more! --** CHRIS **-- Christopher Federico [70366,727] Contact through this GAME SIG, the Commodore Forum, or EasyPlex. Happy Videoing!
