How to modify your
ALINCO DJ-X1 scanner
to provide an discriminator output

 

 

Be carreful: This is an involved operation that sould not be attempted
by anyone who does'nt feel at home with fine electronics works.

The first thing you have to do is open the scanner.
Unplug the battery pack.
You should see the scanner like that
Unscrew the four screws (red arrows) to open the backside of the scanner.

Now, you should see the scanner like that.
The important part is the left one.
Unplug the two flat cables to get this part alone.

This picture is a zoom just at the side of the Line Out Jack.
Locate the RCL10487 IC.
First, open the Line Out Jack.
To do so, take off the little metal ring, and then the plastic cap.
Unsold the jack connector with a "S" form, and cut its paw.
Place a 10K resistor between the "S" jack connector and the pin of the RCL10487 IC. I used a litthe red wire to connect the resistor and the jack connector, it's easy.
Mount back the Jack case, after have made a little cut where the wire enter the case.
