The release notes list important information you should know prior to deploying and using Native POP3 Connector, including known issues.

For detailed documentation on Native POP3 Connector, see the product's built-in help and product web-site.

Please, use the following guides to properly install Native POP3 Connector:

• If you have Native POP3 Connector 1.x.x installed, make sure it has any service name but NPCSvc. Also make sure you're installing this version not in the same folder with 1.x.x (or better uninstall 1.x.x before installing this version, see UNINSTALLATION section of the 1.x.x ReadMe.txt file).
• If you have 2.0.x version installed, uninstall it please. To keep existing Native POP3 Connector configuration, do not remove it from Exchange System Manager.
• After setup succeeded, add Native POP3 Connector to the Exchange System Manager by right-clicking Connectors node and selecting New -> Native POP3 Connector in the context menu.

This section explains Native POP3 Connector usage basics.

• After installing (see Installation Notes) you can add mailboxes by right-clicking Native POP3 Connector instance in the Exchange System Manager and selecting New -> Mailbox. Then you can configure mailboxes by double-clicking them or right-clicking and selecting Properties in the context menu.
• You have to manually Start and Stop Native POP3 Connector service (using Services administration applet) unless you change its startup mode to Automatic.
• All configuration changes (either Native POP3 Connector inself or its mailboxes) take effect after restarting Native POP3 Connector service.

This section describes known issues for Native POP3 Connector. These issues may impede your ability to successfully deploy and use it. You should familiarize yourself with all of the known issues listed here prior to installing the software.

Known issues are listed based on setup errors and resolutions:

Cannot enable Schema Updates

Cannot modify Schema

Resolution

If setup reports this error during installation progress, most likely Schema Master computer is not the same with the Native POP3 Connector and setup cannot enable Active Directory Schema remotely.
See resolution below.

If setup reports this error during installation progress, most likely logged in user has no Schema Admin rights because he(she) is logged on a sub-domain.
See resolution below.

In both cases above you have to use the following installation scenario:

• Active Directory modification:
  On the Schema Master computer (usually Primary Domain Controller) using user account with Schema Admins rights run setup, select Custom installation type and disable Native POP3 Connector components feature. Install the product with Active Directory Schema modifications only.
• Product setup:
  On the computer needed using user account with Domain Admins rights (in the domain which this computer belongs to) run setup, select Custom installation type and disable Active Directory Schema modifications feature. Install the product with Native POP3 Connector components only.

You can always uninstall Native POP3 Connector using Add/Remove Programs Control Panel applet.

If you want to keep existing Native POP3 Connector configuration, do not remove Native POP3 Connector from Exchange System Manager. In this case, it will retain its Active Directory objects in your Forest.

If you want to remove Native POP3 Connector completely, make sure to remove all of its instances using Exchange System Manager before uninstalling it with Add/Remove Programs.
